Over the weekend I had the great joy of watching my daughter be baptized. After witnessing that meaningful and proud moment, the family gathered to celebrate with a reception. I wanted the gathering to feel warm, festive, and reflective of the occasion, so I chose a purple and silver color scheme and coordinated the food and decor to match.
Coordinating food with the event’s color palette is one of my favorite ways to create a cohesive look. I arranged a dessert and snack table that combined homemade and simple treats, all styled to complement purple and silver accents. I’ll be sharing recipes for many of these items soon, but here is an overview of what I included on the table and how I presented everything.
Dessert/Snack Table:
The centerpiece of the sweets was a Swiss Cake Roll. This treat features a light sponge cake filled with a creamy mixture of cream cheese, powdered sugar, and whipped topping. The roll slices beautifully and adds an elegant, classic touch to any dessert spread.
I also made spritz cookies decorated with edible disco dust and tinted with violet Wilton icing color. Their delicate shapes and shimmer made them perfect for the purple-and-silver theme and added a bit of sparkle to the table.
Classic sugar cookies were included as well, iced with an almond-flavored decorator frosting tinted in the same soft violet hue. The almond frosting gives a slightly nutty, fragrant note that contrasts nicely with the sweeter items on the table.
For easy-to-eat treats, I dipped Rice Krispie bars in chocolate and served them on sticks. Presenting snack bars on sticks makes them convenient for guests and adds a playful element to the display.
To balance sweet with salty, I offered cinnamon sugar glazed nuts and chocolate-covered pretzels. These items provide variety in texture and flavor, and they help round out the dessert offerings for guests who prefer less sweetness.
Chocolate-covered pretzels added a satisfying crunch and a touch of decadence, while themed popcorn—cake-batter flavored—brought a fun, nostalgic snack to nibble on between conversations.
For the main centerpiece I arranged cupcakes topped with buttercream frosting and a handmade chocolate cross as a topper. I had planned to make purple velvet cupcakes to match the theme, but my daughter asked for boxed strawberry-flavored cupcakes instead. It was her special day, so I happily respected her wish and decorated them to match the purple-and-silver palette.
Decorations:
One of my favorite DIY touches was a simple plaque created from party supplies on hand. I used a decorative paper plate as the frame, printed a short verse about baptism, mounted the print on coordinating purple cardstock, and glued it to the plate. The result was an inexpensive yet meaningful focal point for the dessert table.
Fresh flowers brought a natural softness to the table. To hold the blooms, I repurposed glass bottles—one was a saved Starbucks Frappuccino bottle—painted them metallic silver, and tied curly ribbon around the necks. The painted bottles reflected light and tied in the silver theme without costing much.
Tables:
The dining tables used simple white tablecloths with strips of purple fabric as runners. I arranged several small bouquets of purple daisies in silver votive holders down the center of each runner to create an elegant, cohesive look that felt celebratory but not fussy.
Each place setting included a silver charger, a white plate, and silverware wrapped in a purple napkin. I finished the look with a DIY silver-accented napkin ring to add a touch of sparkle and tie every element back to the overall color scheme.
It was a beautiful day spent with family and friends celebrating a meaningful milestone in our daughter’s life. The purple-and-silver dessert and snack table helped create a festive atmosphere, and simple DIY touches kept the focus on fellowship, faith, and making memories together.
