One of the main reasons I began making soap was to avoid the harsher ingredients often found in commercial bars and to save money. When my daughters and I made homemade gift baskets for teachers last Christmas, soap was an easy, useful item to include—and we were hooked.
This honey and oatmeal melt-and-pour recipe is simple and fast. You only need a few ingredients and basic supplies, and the soaps will be ready to use in less than a day.

Ingredients:
- Goat’s Milk Soap Base – Goat’s milk adds fatty acids that help support soft, hydrated skin.

What is Oatmeal Honey Soap Good For?
Honey and oatmeal soaps are especially helpful for people with dry or itchy skin because they combine gentle exfoliation with moisturizing ingredients. The formula is mild enough for children and adults who prefer natural, uncomplicated skincare.
Can You Use Oatmeal in Melt and Pour Soap?
Yes. Colloidal oats—or oats ground to a fine powder—blend smoothly into melt-and-pour bases and give bars a soothing, creamy feel. If you only have rolled oats, pulse them in a blender or food processor until they’re finely ground for the best texture.
Can You Mix Honey In Melt and Pour Soap?
Raw honey mixes well into melt-and-pour soap and contributes moisturizing, antioxidant-rich benefits. It will not make the finished bars sticky when used in typical soap amounts, and it blends nicely when stirred into the melted base.

How To Make This Honey Oatmeal Soap Recipe
Melt: Cut the soap base into roughly 1-inch cubes. Heat in the microwave in 20–30 second bursts, stirring between intervals until the base is fully melted.
Stir: If using rolled oats, grind them to a fine powder first. Add the oats, honey, essential oil, and clay (if using) to the melted base. Whisk until the mixture is smooth and lump-free.
Pour: Carefully pour the soap mixture into molds, filling each to the top. If the soap begins to firm up before you finish pouring, warm it for another 15–30 seconds and stir briefly. For a decorative touch, sprinkle a few whole oats on top before the soap sets.
Let Harden: Allow the bars to cool and harden for at least two hours, then gently remove them from the molds.

Tips
Variations: Swap the lavender for another gentle essential oil, such as geranium, sweet orange, or chamomile, depending on your scent preference.
Two-Toned Bars: For a layered look, divide the soap base into two equal portions. In the first portion, mix half the honey, half the oats, pink clay, and half the essential oil. Pour this into the bottom of your molds and let it set for about an hour. Warm the second portion, add the remaining honey, oats, and essential oil, and pour on top of the set layer. Let the full bar harden before unmolding.
Storage: Use the soaps right away or store them in a cool, dry place. Proper storage helps them last longer and maintain scent and texture.
Gifting: These handmade bars are lovely in gift baskets for Mother’s Day, birthdays, holiday presents, or teacher gifts.
